Recently someone asked me if I could define a TROLL.

A TROLL is a person who is cynical, negative, and abusive on social media. A person, who instead of spreading joy and shining their light, they are just hating on people.

We all have seen these people on social media.

It's much more common on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook because these platforms are less professional than LinkedIn.

But TROLLS live on LinkedIn, too.

The question is how can YOU engage more on LinkedIn and make sure that people do not view you as a troll.

Well, the first thing you need to realize is that when you post something KIND like, "Thank you for being amazing!" That is beautiful. So if you're always posting nice comments like that, people will most likely not confuse you with a troll.

If you're having trouble coming up with things to say in comments on LinkedIn, there's a list below of 30 encouraging and helpful comments you can post.

Another way to engage is to LIKE people's posts and their comments. It does not COST ANYTHING to like something. Just a second of your time but it makes a big difference to someone else.

There are three reasons why you should like content on LinkedIn:

  1. Because you LIKE THE PERSON. This reason is my favorite. You just want to send good karma their way.
  2. Because you LIKE THE CONTENT. If the content resonates with you, if it moved you in a good way, give it a like and let other people be moved as well.
  3. If you want to SAVE THE CONTENT for viewing later. Because everything you like gets stored in your activity so when you review your activity you can see it later.

When I find a post that I REALLY like I might leave a very nice thoughtful custom comment with WHY I like that post and also add some hashtags to give the post a bit more juice.

Also, I like to mention people that might find a certain post helpful. This way you aren't just living in a vacuum but instead creating a community around your interactions and engagement.

Engaging doesn't have to be complicated and even if you only have 5 minutes per day, make sure that you engage with people you care about.

Here are 30 empowering comments you can leave for people in your network:

  1. Thank you for your post, I really enjoyed it.
  2. I love following you, you are always full of great ideas.
  3. This was great, thanks for sharing.
